Auger Boring is a process of forming a horizontal bore by jacking the steel casing through the earth from a main shaft to a reception shaft. Soil is removed from inside the encasement by means of a rotating auger. An Auger Boring Machine (ABM) bores through soil or rock with a cutting head and auger to install steel casing pipe.
Pipe Jacking or Tunneling is a trenchless technology method that uses a system to install prefabricated pipes directly behind a shield or tunnel boring machine. The pipes are installed by utilizing a hydraulic jacking force from the drive shaft. The jacking force is transmitted through a pipe-to-pipe interaction. Excavation is performed manually, such as hand mining, or mechanically with the use of a Tunnel Boring Machine.
Horizontal Directional Drilling is an installation method where the drill rig sits on top of the ground and a pilot rod is installed along the alignment. Once the pilot comes out on the other side, a reaming head is attached to the drill rods. Then the hole is enlarged until it has been enlarged enough to allow the pulling in of the new pipe or conduits that is desired to be installed at this location.

Sliplining is the insertion of a new pipe by pulling or pushing it into the existing pipe and grouting the annular space. The pipe used may be continuous or a string of individual pipes of a smaller diameter than the original pipe.
